Understanding children’s emotions

Date/time: Tuesday 17th December, 9.30 – 12.15
Venue: The Nissen Hut, Eastville Park
Tea, coffee and biscuits provided

About the session

Spontaneous, intense, fast-changing… children’s emotional experiences can sometimes leave us feeling like a whirlwind has been through. For us adults it can be hard to understand why children can go from calm to devastated in just a few moments.

The winter holidays can be a particularly challenging time. Your routine is out, there’s lots of people to see, and the excitement of the season can lead to tricky emotional interactions between adults and children.

Session aims

This session will support you to:

  • See children’s emotions as a chance for connection and learning
  • Understand some of your own assumptions about emotions
  • Develop your skills in responding to children’s emotions
  • Connect with other like minded parent and carers

“Thank you! I think my own beliefs about what emotions are ok to express and what one’s aren’t were making things worse…but seeing all emotions as valid and normal is so helpful”
